  • Abstract
    Wideband frequency hopping is one of the key properties of the GSM air interface. Frequency hopping introduces diversity on the transmission link, which improves the receiver performance. However, in indoor GSM systems, less frequency diversity gain is expected due to the characteristics of the indoor radio channel. The gain of frequency diversity in indoor 1800 MHz GSM systems is analyzed by means of bit level simulations of the GSM full rate speech channel together with a wideband channel model. The analysis shows that the gain of frequency diversity in indoor environments is still considerable, even though the delay spread of the radio channel is as low as 20-30 ns
