Abstract :
We look at the benefit of using InP semiconductor technology to improve the overall efficiency of the RF power amplifier and present experimental prototype and simulation results for a Personal Access Communications System (PACS) subscriber unit (SU) transmitter RF power amplifier. Transmitter spectral spreading, or spectral regrowth, and adjacent channel power ratio, ACPR variations using experimental and simulation results based on Bellcore´s InP HBT technologies are presented. The relationship of the amplifier 1 dB compression point and third order intermodulation distortion intercept point, IP3, on the spectral regrowth is presented. A technique to improve the amplifier power added efficiency and simultaneously reduce the battery current is suggested and verified by simulation
