Abstract
This paper describes the idea of a remote data recording and retrieval system developed for the identification and the storage of performance data of animals, namely livestock. It also describes the details of a VLSI prototype fabricated of the implantable part of the system. The system consists of two parts: An implanted VLSI device in the animal and a reading and recording device that is external to the animal. Both devices have receive and transmit capabilities and most of the data on the animal can be updated or expanded on
