Abstract :
This paper reports on a finite element study (using Flux 2D) carried out on a cage induction motor and uses an axial multi-sliced model to incorporate rotor skew. This model includes inter-bar current and assesses the effect of this on the starting torque. An analytical simulation (in PC-IMD) is also used to investigate the performance in terms of the torque-speed curves and the results are compared to a set of experimental results from a number of nominally identical machines.
