Abstract
Summary form only given. A strong interest has been paid towards ultra wide band (UWB) technology for wireless communications since the famous first report and order form the FCC in 2002. After years of emphasis on high data rate (HDR) short range applications, the time as come for low data rate (LDR) ones which include a ranging service. This talk focuses on receiver architectures and performances for low data rate applications and more precisely on non coherent solutions which are very promising in terms of power consumption. A case study is proposed to get a good idea of achievable performances of such systems. Finally, a status of the IEEE 802.15.4a standard, which is mainly devoted to a UWB LDR specification, is given.
