Abstract :
According to the empirical analysis in this paper, there is an optimal concentration degree of production and population for Chinese provinces, whether below or above the optimal value will cause serious loss to economic growth. These provinces, such as Guangdong, Hubei, Sichuan, Liaoning, Heilongjiang should scatter production and population to their medium and small cities, so as to avoid the non-economical effect of aggregation in large cities and promote economic growth. Other provinces, whose concentration degrees are lower than their optimal values, should continue to drive production and population to their big cities in order to make good use of agglomeration economies in large cities and promote economic growth.
