  • Abstract
    There is no novelty in the ideas that genetic diversity are essential to scientific advance and the future of human society. Genetic diversity will play the fundamentally important role to in crop improvement and agricultural system. China is one of the origin countries of Asian cultivated rice, its rice genetic resources are richful. Base on analysis rice varieties from 25 major rice producing provinces in China between 1982-2002, we studied the level of rice genetic diversity, an econometric model was developed to study the determinants of rice genetic diversity. The results indicate that rice genetic diversity has been risen up in recent years in China. There are several key factors affecting rice genetic in China, including diversity of the trait of rice varieties, the policy of rice production and demand, and agricultural environment. To enrich crop genetic diversity, the government should make policies to increase breeder´s incentives to develop new improved varieties using diverse materials.
