Abstract :
This paper introduces a recent developed power Multistage Converter (MSC) and applies it as STATCOM to the Power Sub Grid systems. Through discussions about harmonics reduction, voltage regulation, and the mathematical modeling, this paper illustrates how the MSC works for the Power Sub Grid. Comparing with the topology of Multilevel Converter (MLC) that is popular for high power applications, the MSC has advantages of less THD, easy for voltage control, and most importantly, it has simpler, smaller, and much cheaper structure.
