Abstract :
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been considered in a number of different contexts, some of which may request the fast delivery of the sensed data to a gateway node. This work explores the use of Cooperative Communication (CC) and topology control to improve WSN connectivity while reducing the average end-to-end delay to route data items to a sink node. Two techniques are proposed in this work: Cooperative Sink Communication (CSC) and Cooperative Sink Communication Helper Set (CSC (HS)). These techniques have shown to reduce the average end-to-end delay by ≈50% in the evaluated scenarios, while being able to maintain energy costs at levels similar to other prominent works in the literature.
