Abstract
Loop couplers are used for the interaction with the beam as pickups and kickers in stochastic cooling systems. This paper presents a new planar loop coupler based on Al2O3 as the dielectric substrate and discusses both the signal-beam interaction and the scattering behaviour of the coupler working as a kicker. The planar concept is analyzed by means of a 3-d full-wave finite-difference method in the frequency domain and the results are compared to the image current approach, which is commonly used for coupler design
