Abstract :
Inland waterways as a commonly used transport mode is a main objective of the traffic policy in Europe, specifically in view of the dramatic increase of the transport on the Corridor VII of the trans European transport network (TEN-T) due to the enlargement of the European Union, In order to facilitate modal shift towards multimodal transportation, inland navigation must provide an attractive service quality. Therefore, a key requirement for the integration of Danube navigation into intermodal transport chains is the safe, predictable, and efficient execution of the transport processes. The provision of a telematics information service to support traffic and transport management (river information services, in short RIS) will make up the information weakness of inland waterway transport.
