Abstract :
The paper reviews basic theory and historical background of multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) wireless systems utilising multiple antennas at both transceiver and receiver side. The potential for increased capacity and throughput in nonline of site and other strong multipath propagation environments is argued. A classification of various MIMO systems is given. The conclusion contains cost-benefit discussion and future applications of MIMO systems.
