Abstract :
To conserve communications capacity, open-loop control is preferred, and is virtually mandatory in systems that use separate up- and down-link spot beams. Proper implementation of power control in the open-loop mode requires adequate knowledge of the characteristics of the propagation medium, and performance should be evaluated under a variety of realistic weather conditions. A series of open-loop ULPC experiments at 14/11 GHz were performed at COMSAT Laboratories to evaluate performance and to establish design principles that support the implementation of ULPC for a variety of satellite communications systems
