  • Abstract
The main purpose of this session would be to give an easy to understand presentation of recent developments in the understanding and definition of predictive control. There is often a large gap between the work of academia and industrial practice. This talk will focus on the key ideas and assumptions that academics use. However, the speaker will tailor this for a more industrial audience by removing much of the mathematical notation common place in the literature and concentrating on the concepts. As such the talk will be quite broad ranging, beginning from a quick overview of tuning guidelines to ensure good nominal performance with constraint handling and then moving to more current topics such as invariance and its usefulness, designing for robustness and computational issues. The speaker will also give a brief introduction to parametric techniques for implementation as these have huge potential for improving transparency and thus satisfying rigourous risk assessments
