Abstract :
Loss minimization is an important research issue in power system network. This can be minimized by reactive power compensation. Hence placements of multi type FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) devices have been suggested in this paper for optimal real and reactive power dispatch. Three different kinds of FACTS devices like Static Var Compensator (SVC), Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) and Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) are considered in this study. The placement of FACTS devices highly depends on its parameter and suitable location in the power system network. Thus a new Self Adaptive Firefly Algorithm is proposed to identify the type, optimal location and parameter of FACTS devices. This proposed strategy is tested on three IEEE test systems and their results are presented.
