Abstract :
Downloading one song may not feel that serious of a crime. However, the accumulative impact of millions of songs downloaded illegally and without compensation to all the people who have helped to create that song and bring it to fans is devastating. Music theft is real, ongoing and emerging challenge. Both the volume of music acquired illegally and resulting drop in revenues are overwhelming. Digital sales, while on the rise, are not making up the difference. Global music piracy causes 12.5 billion dollars of economic losses each year due to street piracy-the manufacture and sale of counterfeit CDs and online piracy-illegal downloading from internet. A creative and financial vitality method to overthrow this problem is the use of patchwork based audio watermarking scheme which not only provides security but also maintains quality of the media file. Thus, the toll that music theft takes on the enormous cast of industry players working behind the scenes to bring music to our ears is greatly benefited. The original intention of watermarking is for copyright protection but the most obvious purposes are the needs for proof of ownership and enforcement of usage policy. Hence, audio watermarking can also be used for fingerprinting and add features to a media.
