Abstract :
With recent development of power electronics devices and control engineering, FACT devices applicable to transmission network both for series compensation and shunt compensation are very useful from the point of view of their flexibility. To enhance power transfer capability, series compensation by using FACT device is so chosen that it is cheaper and less spacious than installing a new generating unit. In this paper, for series compensation, Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) is chosen because of its flexible operation in inductive as well as capacitive region. Here the basic modelling and control strategy of TCSC is discussed. A very conceptual theoretical background for controlling overall reactance of the device and implementing using the software MATLAB is established.
