Abstract
Summary form only given. The history of the wire antenna and methods for analyzing it are traced through the 20th century. The relative merits of the various integral equations applicable to the wire antenna (and scatterer) and of the methods for solving them are delineated. Techniques for modeling the antenna source are described and the difficulties caused by the "slice or delta-function generator" are explained. Schemes for evaluation of the exact kernel are listed as are the consequences of employing the average or approximate kernel. Extensions to curved-wire antennas and to complex wire structures are summarized. A few of the many applications of simple wire antennas are also mentioned.
