Abstract
Cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs) inherit the challenges of both cognitive radio technology and wireless ad hoc networks. In this paper, we investigate the problems of secondary users´ network lifetime maximization and interference to primary user (PU) minimization jointly in BER constrained stationary cognitive radio ad hoc networks. To solve the problem a cross layer approach is adopted. First, minimum total interference (MTI) and maximum network lifetime (MNL) problems are studied separately as joint power allocation and routing problems. Next, closed form expression for a hybrid-MNL-MTI power allocation approach is proposed followed by a new hybrid routing metric. We also present implementation issues related to the proposed hybrid routing and power allocation scheme. Simulation results show that our proposed hybrid approach succeeds in extending network lifetime and controlling interference to PU simultaneously in a significant manner.
