Abstract
Distribution of multimedia content through the Internet has become a trend in the present technology-aged community. There is a need to ensure the quality of service (QoS) is conserved especially in bandwidth estimation to support multimedia demand limited by infrastructure constraint. The challenge is then to produce bandwidth management that are adaptable and efficient for varying traffic conditions. In this paper, an improved probe-rate method to measure available bandwidth called Bandshaper was proposed and implemented on existing bandwidth estimation tool, Pathload. The method takes advantage on the Self-Loading of Periodic Streams (SLoPS) technique which exploit the one-way delay algorithm and decrease the grey region of available bandwidth. Hence, it improves the estimation accuracy and computation time of the original technique.
