Abstract
Reservoir Optimization is a continuous optimization problem which is also called as NP-hard problem. Optimizing reservoir release is very much important to save water in reservoirs. The water should be optimally released in order to uniformly release the water all the times and for all purposes. The water release should also best satisfy the demand. In this paper, Deterministic optimization model was used which aims at minimizing release of water and also convincing the demand to the maximum extent. This model was used for framing release patterns for different inflow and demand scenarios. The release is based on the demand and release rules were framed based on Standard Operating Policy of reservoir system which includes storage, inflow and losses of the reservoir. Thomas-Fiering Stochastic Stream flow model was used for generating synthetic inflow to compare results with historic inflow. The real time data of Thirumurthi and Amaravathi reservoirs located in Udumalpet were used for implementing deterministic optimization technique.
