Abstract :
In order to check the possibility of raising the service temperature of installed power cables, PD degradation characteristics in materials for cable insulation and their interfaces were investigated at high temperatures (70-110°C). With increasing temperature, the tree inception voltage of XLPE bulk decreased below 90°C and increased above 90°C. The degradation at the interfaces was also investigated and the EPR surface showed peculiar type of degradation with void formation. Possible causes of the void formation are increase of pressure of gas due to decomposition of EPR, additives and impurities, desorption from EPR surface and so on
