  • Abstract
Fiber to the distribution point (FTTdp) is a broadband access solution taking fiber to a distribution point very close to the customer premises, with total copper wire length to the customer premises equipment up to 250 meters. In this paper, we present an overview of the emerging G.fast technology. G.fast-based FTTdp deployments provide fiber-like speed (e.g. up to 1 Gb/s) and require a significantly lower investment than fiber to the home. Thus, it is a promising alternative for fixed broadband access in both short term and long term.
