Abstract
In the paper the results of an experimental and numerical study of the flow field in a vortex chamber are presented. The experiments showed the non-symmetry of the axial and tangential velocity profiles. The power spectra of the velocity fluctuation demonstrated the increasing of velocity pulsations at frequency close to 20 Hz. This may be caused by the periodical displacement of the vortex axis relative to the position of the chamber axis (vortex precession). Numerical simulation done in the axisymmetrical formulation showed that the standard k-e model of turbulence obtains the maximum of the tangential velocity near the wall of the chamber, while the modified k-e model of turbulence and the experiments obtain the maximum of tangential velocity close to the radius of an exit diaphragm
