Abstract
A compact single feed circularly polarized micro strip antenna with cross shaped slits is proposed for GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) applications. In this paper, four cross shaped slits are embedded at the corners of a cross slot loaded square patch thus improving axial ratio bandwidth. In addition, five cross slots are cut on the ground plane for achieving better compactness and superior return loss. The proposed structure is about 60% compact in size when compared with the conventional micro strip antenna design. It has also been observed that the resonant frequency is highly dependent on length and width of the centred cross slot and embedded corner cross slits. The 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth achieved is 2.2%.
