  • Abstract
Classical music performed by the MIDI does not give the same sound quality as music of the CD. It would be very useful if we could play classical music in CD-DA format by the MIDI maintaining the sound quality. To do this, two works are needed. One is to convert the CD-DA format to the MIDI format and another is to make the MIDI sound modules have the same sound quality as CD. We study a method to convert the CD-DA format to the MIDI format. First, the CD-DA data is converted to the Wave format (Hall, 1990), then information on notes in music are extracted from the Wave data. After that, we can make the MIDI data using this information. Most of all, it is important to extract each pitch of notes exactly. The information on notes such as pitch, length of note and key velocity is needed (Roads, 1998). Using this information we can generate the MIDI data. We focus on this issue. We study two subjects to do this work. One is how we can get the pitch of notes and another is how we can get information of notes just like classical music with CD-DA format
