Abstract
Reasonable design of major substation in load center ensures the rationality of overall network infrastructure and maintains system load serving capability. In the paper, a risk-based approach is proposed to evaluate substation loadability in transmission planning process. A variety of contingencies was applied to estimate loss of load using sensitivity analysis. Risk indices of load loss for incremental load levels are calculated for a certain substation infrastructure designs. In the end, the proposed approach was used for two practical case studies. This work had demonstrated risk-based approach is able to address the needs for loadability evaluation in substation planning.
