Abstract
In recent times, 60 GHz millimeter wave systems have become increasingly attractive due to the escalating demand for multi-Gb/s wireless communication. Recent works have demonstrated the ability to realize a 60 GHz transceiver by means of a cost-effective CMOS process. This paper aims to give the most up-to-date status of the 60 GHz wireless transceiver development, with an emphasis on realizing low power consumption and small form factor that is applicable for mobile terminals. To make 60 GHz wireless more robust and ease of use in various applications, broadband propagation and interference characteristics are measured at the 60 GHz band in an application-oriented office environment, considering the concurrent use of multiple frequency channels and multiple terminals. Moreover, this paper gives an overview of future millimeter wave systems.
