Abstract :
This paper discusses and compares two interval based uncertain reasoning approaches, one is based on interval algebras, and the other is based on rough set theory. The main difference between them lies in the interpretations of intervals. Many interval algebra based methods focus on computation techniques without considering a well defined physical interpretation of intervals. Rough set based approaches use a particular interpretation of intervals. The comparative study of the two related and complementary methods may enhance our understanding of basic issues of interval based uncertain reasoning
