Abstract
This paper presents a mathematical method for analysis of reliability and associated cost regarding electrical power grids and similar systems. The reliability analysis is based on Markov models established by means of unit models, which is an efficient method for analysis of large systems. General principles concerning application of the method are presented and illustrated by an example from a local power grid in Norway
