Abstract
At present the correction power supplies in use at DESY are of unipolar type with polarity switcher. The advantages of this design are simplicity and low cost, with the disadvantages of limited dynamic behavior and poor zero crossing control. Photovoltaic couplers are now available for driving MOSFETs without the need for a gate-driving unit between controller and MOSFET. The gate voltage for the MOSFET is generated by photovoltaic couplers. The output stage of the bipolar power supplies is a linear H-bridge. Around zero output current the MOSFETs conduct a small bias current which improves the zero crossing behavior
