Abstract :
The classical amplitude and phase conditions for sustained oscillation within a feedback loop are taken as the basis for a brief review of the characteristics of a general oscillator. Surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are described that fulfil the requirements of the feedback element in such an oscillator. The electrical performance of some fundamental mode SAW oscillators is described, the practical construction of typical devices illustrated and a number of specific receiver applications highlighted
