Although historically a main application for the logarithmic amplifier was in radar receivers, considerably more log amplifiers are used in other applications, such as electronic warfare, instrumentation, radar-related systems such as IFF and collision avoidance, and even cellular radio. Against this background, the forms of logarithmic amplifier and the reasons for their use are briefly described
