Abstract :
Planar transformers are a novel type of devices used in integrated power systems. Having many advantages compared to classic wire wound technology; it´s used to minimize size and weight and to increase their ability to withstand mechanical vibrations. For efficiency point of view, literature demonstrated that the power losses at high frequency of a given planar transformer are significant. However, a tradeoff between the power losses and the frequency of the transformer leads to various levels of optimization. So far, literature has not studied this issue. In our point of view, such a trade-off can be studied by an electromagnetic analysis. A Finite Element Method (FEM) is, however, used to give the planar transformer field and current density distributions windings and the simulations results are obtained. During verification process, simulation results are quite compared with those of Dowell method.
