Abstract :
An original line-starting method for a synchronous machines, which do not have damping windings, is investigated in this paper. A general overview of line start synchronous machines is first presented. Problems related to the line-starting of synchronous machines is first presented. The new line starting method is investigated using both electrical circuits modeling, and coupled 2D finite element and circuit modeling.
