Abstract :
As antennas are not conspicuous, their existence is easily ignored by the general public. Recently, when people experienced the “death grip” of the iPhone4, they recognized the importance of antenna design in wireless communications in particularly mobile one. Since then, many simple and efficient antennas were invented to support the growth of radio-frequency (RF) technology & the sustainable evolution of the mobile communications. In this paper, a design of a novel multi-layer patch antenna functioning in the UMTS band will be presented. The antenna is printed on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant εr=4.3, a rectangular conducting plate placed above the patch in order to enhance the antenna´s performances especially its bandwidth. The analysis of the structure has been performed using CST (COMPUTER SIMULATION TECHNOLOGIE-MICROWAVE STUDIO and HFSS (High FREQUENCY STRUCTURE SIMULATOR).
