  • Abstract
    Image Compression is becoming a major area of research due to tremendous amount of applications needing transmission & reception of images. The wavelet transforms & hybrid wavelet transforms by now are proven to be better for image compression. This paper presents a novel technique for image compression using row & column cosine hybrid wavelet transforms generated by Orthogonal Transforms & color spaces. In this proposed method a test bed of ten color images of size 256×256 is used. Orthogonal Transforms are used for generation of Hybrid Wavelet Transforms. Here we have compared performance of four color spaces i.e. RGB, LUV, XYZ & YIQ. From these color spaces LUV color space gives better performance with Cosine Hybrid Wavelet Transform with better quality of compressed images.
