Abstract :
A soliton system with carefully-designed soliton controllers can operate with asymptotically small probability of error from both amplitude noise and timing jitter. Such systems are `3-R´ because they make a binary decision between soliton and soliton. We need not rely on complicated non-linear mathematics to describe the jitter performance-the principles behind it are the same as those in any other control problem, and it admits to a quantitative analytical solution in these terms. We may also conceptualise the suppression of dispersive waves and amplitude noise
