Abstract :
The positive-real property in a restricted frequency range plays a crucial role in the structure/control design integration. The paper presents a characterization of such property and demonstrates its usefulness in the design of a swing-arm servo mechanism for magnetic storage devices. A time-domain interpretation of the property is given and an extension is discussed to incorporate robustness into the design
