Abstract :
The objective of the digital imaging for condition asset management (DIFCAM) project was to show the feasibility of imaging and laser scanning based techniques for tunnel examination. This was successfully done by developing a demonstrator for monitoring the interior of rail tunnels, reducing or eliminating the need for track access and subjective human visual inspections. This is an example of a generic technology platform that could be deployed in other sectors.
