Abstract
Pressure pipes are usually used to carry fluids and their safety are extremely significant since pipe failure may cause damage to equipment, environment and loss of poverty. In this paper, non-destructive inspection methods for pressure pipes carrying fluid are investigated, and two widely used on-line methods, Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) and Acoustic Emission (AE) are introduced in detail. Since non-destructive testing method is rarely 100% effective at detecting defects of pressure pipelines, the pronounced features of Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) and Acoustic Emission (AE) techniques are presented and the advantages and drawbacks of each method are discussed and compared to other defect detection techniques for pressure pipes.
