Abstract :
A leaky-wave circularly polarized (CP) antenna is presented. The antenna consists of an exponentially curved slot in a ground plane, a microstrip line feed and a microstrip-to-slot transition. The presented antenna performs wideband characteristics, including the 15% axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and the 55% impedance and gain flatness bandwidth. Additionally, the tilt beam issue of leaky-wave type patterns is discussed and overcome with an extended design of the presented antenna. The extended antenna performances even better bandwidth (the 3-dB AR bandwidth of 34%) and more stable radiation patterns (the peak gain around the zenith with a level of 7.7 dBic).
