Abstract :
The paper explained how the initial idea of fully digital processing for a studio camera was not so easy to implement. The triaxial cable was an important limitation and could not be used to transmit very high digital bit rates. The optimum compromise seems to-day to be a hybrid camera using analog processing for the preprocessor including transmission on the cable and a digital post processor in the base station delivering all the parallel and serial digital outputs. Such a camera could be used for some years, waiting for the availability of 12 bits processing VLSI and acceptance of fiber optics to replace the triaxial cable
