Abstract
The authors consider how radio coverage could be provided to a large number of customers. They illustrate this with case studies of exchanges in three areas in the UK. In particular they have examined in detail how they could identify potential subscriber radio customers in an exchange area in the south west of England. They then consider the various network topologies for providing radio coverage to these customers, with sample implementations, to estimate their relative effectiveness. To increase the coverage they have also considered the use of radio terminals, which could also act as repeaters. This allows a wide range of network topology options such as rings and chains to be considered, either for an entire exchange area or preferably for a small group of subscribers. A comparison has also been made of the relative merits of the different strategies
