Abstract :
This paper analyses the effect of mismatch losses caused by the effect of partial shading on an array of photovoltaic modules in a photovoltaic power plant. For the analysis purpose the two main topologies of PV array connection, i.e., series-parallel and total cross tied are considered along with three different shading patterns as random step wise pattern, row wise pattern and column wise pattern. The maximum power is computed for series-parallel and total cross tied connections at different percentage levels of shading using a Matlab/Simulink model of a 20×5 sized array of solar photovoltaic module (SOLAREX MSX-60 watt PV panel).
