Abstract :
The authors show that the parallel resonant voltage source inverter is ideally suited for generation of high intensity magnetic fields in the power range 1-100 kVA and 100 kHz-1 MHz. A first order theoretical model is described which is used to investigate the trade-offs during dimensioning of the series impedance. A low voltage experimental inverter is built and 7.5 kVA at 200 kHz is achieved. By using the existing, slightly suboptimal, experimental circuit a significant increase in either power or frequency can be achieved by simply raising the input voltage to rectified mains voltage, since limitations due to inductive effects were enhanced by low voltage and high currents of the inverter
