Abstract :
An augmented model to greedy multi-rate power control schemes is proposed that integrates mobility information to increase the optimization margins of power efficient packet transmission. The proposed model can be considered as a hierarchical multi-rate power control scheme where current rate allocation decisions are influenced by a larger time horizon that contains information about directionality and velocity of vehicular mobile users. The acquired spatiotemporal information is integrated with a greedy channel rate allocation scheme in the form of a weighting coefficient that provides an incentive to initially increase (degrease) the allocated rate for users that move away from (approach) the base station. Conducted numerical investigations showed that required power per transmitted packet can be reduced on average by 40% without penalizing throughput. The arguments supported here gesture towards an interesting perspective to advance: a set of resource management schemes that incorporate spatiotemporal characteristics of mobile users which can extent performance bounds of current multi-user diversity schemes.
