Abstract :
This paper is directed towards the key issues of the power system to improve the voltage stability of the system and to reduce the real power losses in the system. The analysis has been done on IEEE 14 bus system by using two FACTS devices namely TCSC & STATCOM for power system stability under different loading conditions. The simulation is done on PSAT (Power System Analysis Tool-box) in MATLAB and optimal location is found out by calculating VCPI (Voltage Collapse Proximity Index) and LQP (Line Stability Index) to find the critical line with respect to a bus. Results clearly indicate that placement of FACTS devices at appropriate location can lead to control of power flow in the lines and keep the bus voltages at desired level and hence enhance the steady state voltage stability of the system.
