Abstract :
This paper presents some of the developments of adaptive control in a ten year period around 1960. This was a very fertile period when many ideas that later proved useful were developed. The motivation came from several sources, advances in control theory, demanding applications in flight control and process control, the desire to develop systems with learning capabilities and problems relating to decision making under uncertainty
