Abstract
A kind of solution for WebGIS based on distributed Browser/Server architecture has been proposed, which was implemented by using IIS to manage MapObjects application. Internet Information Services managed server side and was embedded with MapObjects2.3 to provide GIS functions. Users can enjoy WebGIS services by using general browser. Now WebGIS solution is optimized based on popular three-tier, which consists of presentation layer, business logic layer and data access layer, besides, spatial database engine (ArcSDE) middleware technology is used to manage a variety of spatial data and attribute data which are stored in the relational database SQL Server 2005. The solution is easier to maintain because of low coupling between layers and high cohesion within layers. As a validation for feasibility and high efficiency, a web version of campus digital map was implemented by using the solution as the frame.
